Economic Turndown Means Nothing to the GOP

One of the things that always amazes me is the way Democrats bend to the breaking point to be inclusive even to the GOP--but they never return the favor. Even with this unmatched economic soft depression they will still go after gays and the poor and the disabled, basically anyone who either cannot fight back or who "offends" their false morality. I would suppose that gay people in the United States are just slightly lucky that it is not a widely-held view that we started the recession, although I am not betting some nutcase, frothing pastor somewhere is not pushing that stupid idea (well, "Pastor" Hagee does believe the "Anti-christ" of their confused lore will be a gay Jewish man--talk about making a loaded potato of all the things that spiteful splinter cult is supposed to hate all in one place!!!).
I am relieved to see that the 1990s GOP-ministers of doom axis is at least cracked--hopeful one day soon it will break in two. The main focus of Protestantism in America is going to be world peace, the hungry and the sick. This trend will make it harder for the Glorious GOP budget-axers to hack blindly at welfare and programs for the disabled and medical research funding--things you would think true-to-their-faith Christians would have no beef against. Gradually, the new waves of Christians post-Falwell and Pat Robertson will take hold and maybe they will put their focus on the living and those who are (in Ronald Reagan's phrase during a guilty relapse into his Democrat soul--as Luke Skywalker said:" I feel the conflict in you, Father.") "truly needy" in our society. These New Christians may even get the GOP to stop sending attack-dogs after us on every issue, to not send waves of hate and self-hatred to every member of the gay community every time we sit down to the tv news or in the pews of the churches where some gay people go.
The election of President Obama is a positive sign that things are indeed changing. But we all must be wary of the haters and liars and bashers the Rightists inspire. We must also recall that President Obama will need guidance in case he strays away from his core values--all presidents do at some point. We as his supporters must be there in his defense in the way the gay community was not for President Clinton during that food fight over Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The reason that Clinton signed DOMA, I am convinced, was that he knew he had our support and would not suffer losing one vote when he signed away gay marriage rights in that unConstitutional GOP-created piece of spitework. We cannot allow the new president or the Democrat Congress to ever think it can do that to us again, like Prohibition or Term Limits or Vetos of S-Chip, it should be in the Realm of the Unthinkable.
